God you knew this was going to happen.

Why flood your creation?

When I read the story of Noah in the Old testament there was always a few things that stood out to me.

In the bible it says God knows everything.

“… God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.” 1 John 3:20

So if he knows everything,

  • During the times of Noah, why would he get upset when those people defiled each other and themselves?
  • Why would he get so upset to a point he would flood the earth?

Think about it, God created the earth, so that means he was here before the earth. If the earth is at least 4 billion years old, that would mean that God had millions and billions of years to emotionally prepare himself for what was to come in the future if he went on a created those people. Yet he still did it. So why become so angry, or upset to the point you would flood and wipeout all of your creation?

If I had that much time to prepare myself, I probably wouldn’t even react.

“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.”

Genesis 6:5–6

But now, I think I finally understand.

Heres Why

I believe it could’ve been a number of different reasons God did what he did, but I’ll focus on just one.

God‘s love is so infinite and unconditional, and because of this it can be very hard to truly understand it. Even though he knew that his creation would defile themselves and others, he still grieved because no matter how long you prepare yourself for something, when you truly love someone you will always have some type of reaction. Especially if they are doing things to hurt others or hurt themselves.

Think about it this way, what do we do when we don’t care about something or someone? We don’t react! We typically have very little emotion for that person or situation because we honestly could care less.

But when we truly whole heartedly love someone we react to the things they do. They can always find a way to get under our skin because we love them.

So I believe when the people of Noahs day started doing immoral things, even though God knew from the very beginning of time that those horrible things would happen, he reacted because he loved them.

This is my personal take on it.

Thanks for reading Saints!
